Get A Homeland Security Degree

What is Homeland Security?

Homeland security professionals have the weight of the US nation on their shoulders. Their task is to protect the country from diverse threats like terrorist attacks to hurricanes. Homeland security professionals anticipate potential problems and prepare plans to manage them. There are many career opportunities in this field, like positions as enforcement officers, first responders, and computer specialists to helicopter mechanics. A wide range of government departments and agencies that are part of the Homeland Security Department offers these opportunities. Think of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Border Protection, Immigration, Customs, and Transportation Security Administration. Emergency management is a common work area that involves emergency disaster planning in the event of a terrorist threat or natural threat like a hurricane.

What after a Homeland Security course?

A Homeland security degree offers multiple opportunities after graduating. As mentioned before, there are many agencies and departments part of Homeland Security. For example, you can start with Border security where you will work at airports, harbors, or land borders. You will check if incoming travelers have the right documentation and don't bring anything illegal into the country. Another option is to start at the CIA as an analyst after you complete your Homeland security degree. A CIA Analyst is responsible for the comprehension and interpretation of the information collected by agents in the field. This profession is one of the most critical positions in the CIA department. Or join the ICE department as an agent where you will identify the suspects. As an ICE agent, you will find out who the target is, where he comes from, what work he does, and which route he takes. After agents collected all this information, a plan will be made to arrest the suspect with an ICE team. As you can see, there are a lot of different opportunities after completing a Homeland Security degree.

Online or Campus?

There are many reasons a student may not want or cannot attend a classroom. It is time-consuming at first, going to school or university takes up a lot of time. First, you need to get there on time, and you travel by public transport or car which costs money. Then when you get there, you are stuck in a room with an average of 18 classmates. In a classroom with 18 other students, it is hard to concentrate and understand what the teacher is trying to teach. Studying on campus can be confusing, time-consuming, and on top of that, extremely costly. Again, you'd have to get there by public transport or with a car which costs money daily. Then university programs are known for being an arm and a leg. However, lots of universities these days are offering stay at home courses. Home courses are cost-reducing for universities as well as for the individual. Online universities do not have to pay for you on campus, which means lower enrolment prices. Besides, online students can complete a course without the burden of traveling to universities or finding a place to stay near the institution. Plus, you'd save a tremendous amount of money on not spending it on books and learning material because you get this all online.

A benefit of online education is that you can study at your own pace or schedule. Want to keep a full-time or part-time job next to your study? All your plans are all possible when you do an online course. You can take your time and read into the concepts you don't understand, before moving on to the next one. Your schedule is your own, and you don't have to worry anymore about waking up early to make the first-class or missing one because of your changed work shift.
