What is Medical Billing?

Medical billing is the process of submitting and following up claims. This happens with insurance companies in order to receive payments for services rendered by a healthcare provider. Medical billing translates a healthcare service into a billing claim. Simply said, medical billing is the process practitioners such as nurses, doctors, and dentists use to create and submit requests to insurance companies to get payed. The main responsibility of a medical biller is to follow the healthcare facility's claim to ensure the practice receives reimbursement for the work the healthcare providers perform. A knowledgeable biller can optimize revenue for the method.

What is Medical Coding?

We now know that medical billing involves sending the claim to the right insurance company and tracking these down until you receive your payment. Medical coding is a process that serves to support the billing and collection efforts. In medical coding, trained professionals read overall clinical information and documentation that was made while treating a patient. Precise coding is used to refer and class different situations and diagnoses, such as evaluating and treating a patient's broken leg or diagnosing a diabetes type 2 disease. Every case has a different code. The process of determining which type of code to use in the right situation is based on details from sources like the patient's chart and reports that come from laboratory tests. Because there are so many different types of code, situations, and processes to keep track of many medical organizations utilizing sophisticated software systems to help them out. It makes sense that if you have never seen any code, it can be quite intimidating.
